Happy 4 Year Anniversary To Us!

I should be fired from our blog. It has taken me now a over 2 months to finish updating it from our anniversary trip and finally post it. Sorry everyone! I will make sure to update again soon.

October 4th, 2009~4 years ago I married the most amazing man in the world. I don’t know if I tell Jake that enough, but I am so thankful that I get to spend the rest of my life with him and enjoy all of the adventures that come our way. I love you Jake!

I can’t believe that it has been 4 years since we got married. It’s hard to believe everything that has happen in the last 4 years. We have lived in 2 completely different sides of the world and have managed to get through 2 deployments and 5 moves. I am so thankful that I was blessed with such an amazing husband as Jake. I always want to thank Jake for being able to put up with me because I know that I’m not always easy to live with. I know that over the last 7 ½ years since our first date that we have changed so much, but thankfully keep changing and growing together.

Jake and I were fortunate to spend our 4th Wedding Anniversary in Scotland. We decided to go to Scotland because our original trip to Belgium had gotten cancelled by the airline. I figure that while the weather was still nice that we should just head up to Scotland for some new adventures and due to the fact that it’s close, we would be able to save some money. Oh, was I wrong. The trip started off great. The weather was wonderful on the way up, and Jake and I just enjoyed each other’s company and the amazing scenery on the way up. I didn’t bug Jake to pull over the car on the way up to take pictures because I knew that if I did that then we would never arrive. It was supposed to be about 7.5 hour drive from our house.

I finally had Jake pull over about 30 miles from our B&B. That was the first mistake I made. Some people say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but in our case it was a thousand dollars. We pulled over and took a few pictures, but too much of our surprise we got back in the car and the alternator light was on along with the battery light. I said to Jake, “That isn’t good is it?” He let me know that this was a very bad thing. We tried to check with a garage in the tiny town we were staying in. It made the town of Blaine that I grew up in look like New York City. The garage in town told us that they could probably get the part in by Tuesday of next week at the earliest and it was only Thursday at this time and we both knew this was not going to work.

Jake and I finally decided to chance it the next day and make the drive or attempt to make the drive the 80 miles to the nearest VW dealership to get the car fixed. The trip started out fine, but we only made it about 20 miles before the car finally came to a halt. We knew that this was going to happen because before the car died every light on the dash came on. We were lucky enough that we only had to walk back bit to the nearest in. If we would have broken down any later it could have been 30+ miles before we even found a house, or anything for that matter. We ended up purchasing roadside assistance for a year and getting towed to the dealership. The alternator was fixed and we were ready to enjoy the rest of our trip. We got to enjoy walking around that day in Inverness as the car was getting fixed. Then on the way back we stopped to meet Nessie the Lockness Monster.

The first full day that we had a car to use we decided to go see Eilean Donan Castle, which I had been looking forward to for so long. It wasn’t a very nice day, but we were determined to make the best out of our trip. After we finished visiting the castle we weren’t sure what to do so we decided to drive. We finally decided that we would go visit the most northern tip of Scotland. It was a very interesting drive with high winds and lots and lots of rain, but we survived the adventure. We even got a picture of us at the northern tip!

The next day was our anniversary. We had a lovely breakfast, and finally decided to set off on one more adventure. We went over to one of the Islands. We drove around and enjoyed the sights. We took pictures of beautiful scenery and even got our pictures taken with the most gigantic bull ever. We went and enjoyed another castle and walked around the grounds, which were beautiful. When we left the castle it was pouring down rain, with some hail. I told Jake that I think it was good luck because we experienced lots of different weather that day. We got to the car and to our surprise the check engine light was on. I was about to have a meltdown. I couldn’t believe that we were about to have more car issues. Jake had booked reservations at an extremely high end restaurant for dinner, but I told him that I would rather just go to a normal priced restaurant because I figured the car was going to cost us even more money.

The next day we finally set off our adventure home. We decided to stop at the VW dealership on our way home, but it was 100 miles away. When we finally arrived at the dealership it was closed for a local holiday. We ended up making it home and figured that the dealership that had fixed the alternator had forgotten to reset something. I have to say that it was an interesting trip, but I would not changed a thing because it was a real adventure and I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone other than my wonderful husband.

I hope that you all enjoy this story and like the pictures. I’m sorry it has been a while since I updated the blog. I hope that you will check back soon because I will be updating it more often.

Some say pictures are worth a thousand words, but in our case these pictures were worth a thousand dollars!

These are of Jake and I spending our first day waiting for the tow truck.

Jake and I meeting Nessie!

Jake and I at the most Northern Tip of Scotland. The drive up to the northern tip, was very windy and I thought we were going to blow away.

This is on the day of our anniversary. We drove around just exploring. We saw a big hairy cow, and a beautiful castle. The weather was everything from sun to hail. I think that this must be a good luck sign for us, for many more great years to come.
