Our Home!

I just wanted to update the blog with some information. Jake and I got all of our household goods on February 20th, 2009. It was so wonderful to have our stuff again. We shipped everything out the middle of November 2008. It was so surprising how fast that the movers were able to unload everything. I was even more surprised that all of our stuff showed up and only a few minor things were broken. I was most surprised that we didn’t find any pets that tried to escape from Hawaii with us (coach roaches). The house looked like a giant storm had gone through it, and Jake and I could not figure out how the two of us could have so much crap. It took us 3 whole days and 8 hours at the laundry mat to unpack the house. It finally looks like our house, and it’s so great to sleep in our own bed again. We still have a few things to get done like hang pictures, and then attempt to organize the garage, which is jammed pack with all of our stuff also. On Sunday afternoon I was unpacking more stuff in the house while Jake was doing homework and it occurred to me how many houses that we have lived in just since we have been married. I ran down stairs and said to Jake that together since we have been married that we have lived in a total of 4 homes in just over 3 years. It was very mind blowing, and I thought that I have spent a vast majority of my married life packing, moving and unpacking. I think that moving will just continue to be part of our lives for a while still. Daisy and Daffney are very happy at our new house. They were a bit nervous the day before the movers came because we were organizing the house and moved their crates. They thought for sure that they had to move again, and were not very pleased with that. They are finally relaxed and happy that they will be in one place at least for a little while. They have also discovered the flock of sheep that roam on one side of our house. They love to go outside and bark at them. I don’t think that they have realized that the sheep are much bigger than they are, or have the sheep realized that the dogs are small because they will just take off running when the dogs bark at them.

The other day I was saying to Jake that when I think about home now, I think of Hawaii. He said that he feels the same way. I never actually thought that I would miss Hawaii, but it did play a major role in our lives. It’s the place that we spend the start of our marriage. I really believe that home is the where you make it at, or maybe the place that our crap is moved to. The UK is starting to feel more like home because our stuff is here. It’s just when we go out in town and do anything that you really realize that you’re the different one. I guess that our strong American accents just make people stare at us!

Jake is starting shift work this week, and I’m a bit sad that I will have to sleep alone some nights, but I figure that it’s better than him being gone on a deployment and me having to sleep alone for months on end. I start my first day of sub teaching this Friday (February 27th). I’m a bit nervous, but at the same time it will be nice to just get out of the house and do something work related. We are going to try and do something in March for Jake’s birthday. Jake's Birthday is on the 21st of March! I hope that everyone enjoys the pictures, and I will update more soon. The pictures of the house are not that great, but at least everyone can see what we live in! I hope that everyone will try and make a trip over to see us because it’s so beautiful.

I had my first day of sub teaching on Friday February 28th, 2009. It was interesting. I was a bit nervous the first class that I taught. I was subbing for art. The first class was freshman high school, and they were pretty good. Then the next class that I had was middle school from grade 6-8. YIKES. I want everyone to remind me when Jake and I have kids in middle school to ship them off. Then the last period that I taught was high school art, but most of the kids were seniors and they were an easy and fun class!

Front of the house.

This is the side view of the house, but you can't see the addition that was added to the house. The addition is the living room and guest bedroom/bath upstairs.

This is the front yard, which doesn't look that great because it's winter.

The garage, which we don't park in because our driveway is so little.

Kitchen.

Kitchen.

Kitchen.

Shelf/cabnets in kitchen. The doorway goes to the entry way and front door of the house.

Standing in the kitchen and looking into the doorway that leads to the living room.

Dining room.

Dining room.

Dining room and double doors that lead to backyard.

The dining room.

This is the french doors to the dining room closed.

This is more of the lounge and also shows the doors to the dining room again. The best part about this picture is cutie Daffney in the background. I think she was wondering what I was doing!

This is more of the lounge. Those french doors in the back of the picture go into the dinning room. The doors can either be open or closed.

Looking at more of the living room/lounge. That window is the front of the house.

This is our living room or as the Brits call it a lounge. This is the gas fireplace. Then the door to the left goes to the entry way of the house. Then you can't see it, but on the other side of the fireplace is a door that goes into the kitchen also.

The door to the kitchen.

This is the front door.

If you walk in the front door and look left this is what you will see. The door on the left is the laundry room. Then the door on the right is the half bathroom. Then the door that is sort of in the corner goes into the kitchen.

The laundry room, which I never use because they are tiny.

The half bathroom. The British call this a cloakroom. This bathroom is downstairs.

The cutest dog in the whole World! Daisy.

The miniature sink in our master bathroom.

The shower in our master bedroom. It's hard to get a good picture because the room is so small.

The back of the master bedroom. This is the toilet and the only storage that we have in this bathroom.

The great bathtub and shower in the guest bathroom.

Guest bathroom.

Looking at the guest bed from the door way.

The guest bed.

This is the dresser in the guest room. I refinished it all by myself along with all the furniture in this room!

The field on the side of our house. Those are some of the sheep that Daisy and Daffney like to bark at.

This is the backyard. Then on the other side of the fence is just a park.

This is one of the views from the guest room. That is an old church is the distance. Then the brick thing that you can see is the garage, and the dirty patch will eventually be a garden.

Looking down the stairs. That is the front door at the bottom of the stairs that you can sort of see.

This is looking down the hall towards our room and the closet room. Our room is on the left and the closet room is the door on the right.

This is why we call this room the closet room! Jake and I hang all of our clothes in this room because in the UK they don't have built in closets in the bedrooms.

This is the bed in the closet room. So, we can have lots of room for people to come visit!

This is the closet room. This is the window in the room. Then in the back is a little little crawl space and not to be mistaken with being a real "American closet."

The front of our bed, and yes we have a chandler in out room. Our bed also looks giant in this house. I think that it's because in the UK they have miniature furniture.

The front of the master bedroom. The view can be nice at night because you can see in the distance the city lights.

The dresser next to the window, and the TV we never watch because we don't have cable in out house.

This is the view out one of our windows in the master bedroom. We can get up and see the sheep grassing. It's very peaceful and nice not to be looking at someone else house.

Still looking in from door way. The door on the right is the master bathroom, which is pretty small, but very nice.

Looking in from the door way.

  4. Beautiful and so UK-ish, as I would imagine it to be! I have so many questions...what does Jake do in the military, branch etc, what is he studying? Do you guys rent, how do you find someplace w/each deployment? Are you teaching UK kids or military kids? Did you teach in HI? What is the longterm plans, stay in military and travel wherever that sends you? How long are you supposed to be in the UK? Which part are you in now?
    Love from the Pangs!
