Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Adventure
We decided to go on an adventure this last weekend. It was nice to get out and see some more sights because we have been pretty busy the last few weekends just getting stuff done, and not able to get out. We went to Fountains Abbey. It was an old monastery founded in 1132 and was in use until King Henry VIII ordered the dissolution of monasteries in 1539. These buildings were in inhabited for just over 400 years...longer than the U.S. has been a country. It's hard to quantify and grasp that kind of time. The monastery sits upon 500+ acres of land and includes a mill, the Temple of Fame, the Octagon House, and a gorgeous water garden with amazing sculptures. There is so much to see here and everything is so beautiful. For those of you that come and visit us you're in luck because we are only about 20 minutes away from Fountains Abbey.
